The 4th of July this year marked the 250th anniversary of the founding of our country. Through the years there have been many patriotic objects created to remind us of the beauty and the greatness of our wonderful country. No object captures the beauty and spirit of our country more perfectly as those found on postcards.
Here are a few examples of postcards made to celebrate our country and our flag.

4th of July postcards
A “4th of July” postcard from Brisbane, Minnesota, 1910, and
“The Glorious 4th of July-hurrah” from Philadelphia, PA, 1918

Notice the misspelling of the word “wawe” -wave- on the Old Glory card. This one, along with the others are beautifully embossed postcards that were printed in Germany before the United States entered World War I on April 6th, 1917. After that day, cards printed in Germany were obviously no longer available.

Remembering veterans of the Civil War

Sent from San Francisco, California to Lafayette, California in 1918.
Certainly, there are many more postcards showing our flag and you probably have some.
Flag cards cover holidays and events too numerous to count. I chose what I thought were the best from my collection to share with you.
Enjoy this 250th year of freedom! Long may the United States of America thrive.
