Nuclear Ship Savannah had a famous namesake. The SS Savannah was the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1819; the voyage lasted 27 days. One hundred forty years later, the NS Savannah, a completely different kind of vessel, did the same in a fraction of the time. The second trip was much more costly.
