The influence of Puerto Rican and Cuban immigrants, the extraordinary visible success of Desi Arnaz (“I Love Lucy”) and Xavier Cugat, and the comedian Cantinflas, was so great that even the staid Waldorf-Astoria Hotel featured mambo dancing.
