    Silhouettes were once among the most popular forms of art. Anyone could afford a silhouette because they were sold in resort gift shops and on seaside boardwalks. The one my mother had made of me came from Coney Island.

St. Petersburg, Florida, is a city for all ages, but a few years ago it had a geriatric reputation – all because of some green benches. Most are gone, now, but there are some beautiful beaches, many historic sites, and hundreds of ethnic restaurants for the “snowbirds” who arrive every winter.
