A friend recently mailed me a card and it came to mind that the image has appeared in many editions over the years. Above, this circa 1906 edition from Photoglob Company (Zurich, Switzerland) is most likely the first and certainly the most common. Topic postcards come from many sources: art, literature, music and even railroad history. The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad once commissioned a Baltimore artist to create twelve special paintings for their in-house magazine. Then the paintings became postcards.
