Dwight Eisenhower never served in combat, but he achieved total victory in World War II. He had no experience running an institution of higher learning, yet he became President of Columbia University. And he never held public office until he was elected President of the United States.

In times not long ago, neighbors knew and helped one another. When times got tough, they had a party with a well-placed “hat” turned up-side-down for donations that were sought to pay the bills of the unfortunates. City folk called such an event a “Rent Party.” Come on in, sit yourself down, and read about when times were hard in places not so far away.
